THE situation at the skate park on Great Moor Street in Bolton town centre is destined to end in tears.
Before the erection of a “Access to Skate Park Only” sign, pedestrians regularly used it as a shortcut around zooming skaters. A video shared on social media shows how, at one point, a mother has to stop pushing her pram as a blader speeds in front of her. Another is forced to pull her toddler out of the way of a blader heading for her.
The skaters and bladers are doing nothing wrong; pedestrians refusing to walk on the path around the skatepark are at fault. While it’s human nature to take the quickest way, it’s madness here. People are putting themselves and their children at risk, not to mention the same potential for youngsters using the park.
Common sense needs to kick in here, and fast before a nasty accident occurs.
