OUR local markets have travelled a rocky road more recently.
Some, like Bolton Market, have had large investment and are thriving while others, like Farnworth Market, have closed. So, any plan which looks like securing the future and the independent traders who find a home there sounds worth supporting.
Certainly, the enthusiastic plan by Westhoughton market trader Brad Hargreaves deserves some real consideration. Mr Hargreaves currently owns the back section of the market hall and wants to buy the market to “secure its future.”
He wants to improve it with a new frontage, a café, heating and LED lights and make it greener. Most of all he “wants to bring community spirit back to Westhoughton.” Only four years ago, it was voted Best Small Indoor Market nationally and also won a Bolton and Bury Business Award.
Positive support from local people could make it great again. It’s up to us.
