I DO hope that local holidaymakers who enjoy visiting Spain will now boycott Catalonia.

The Constitutional Court has just approved the lifting of a ban on bullfighting there because they say it is part of Spain’s national heritage and only central government has the right to ban it.

No civilised country should actively encourage regular cruelty to animals under any circumstances. While it’s easy to understand national pride surely it doesn’t have to be shown in this way? Bear-baiting was rife in Medieval England but we wouldn’t support it today.

What’s the difference?
