LIKE many Coronation Street viewers, I’m a bit undecided about the return of Rosie Webster to the series.

Local actress Helen Flanagan undoubtedly looks lovely, with an enviably trim figure after the birth of her daughter Matilda, now 19 months old. She has always been very attractive but, before she originally left the series, her role became increasingly lightweight.

On her return, the same seems to be continuing but she’s even more ditzy than usual. Oh, I know she’s meant to be a bit of an airhead, but it would make such a nice change if a character who enjoys modelling, make-up and taking selfies also had a slightly more complex side to her.

Perhaps she could start her own business, follow her mum into local politics or even perhaps get involved in some local campaign to save the Red Rec from housing or similar.

The danger otherwise is that she will become depressingly predictable and I think Rosie – and certainly Helen herself - have more than that to offer.
