WE’RE very quick to criticise celebrities for refusing to acknowledge their pivotal role in helping others.

No-one, however, could accuse Bolton’s Peter Kay of being like that. The caring funnyman has just donated £75,000 to help two local cancer victims.

He performed two shows in one day at the Manchester O2 Apollo and gave all the profits to the Make Kyle Smile appeal for brave Kyle Buckley, aged 12, who is battling a rare form of cancer, and for the Polly Haydock Appeal. Polly is the Westhoughton mum who suffers from a rare muscle tissue cancer and needs costly expert treatment in Germany.

Now, he is holding Dance for Life danceathon events in Manchester, Coventry and Liverpool to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

By raising funds in these enjoyable ways, Peter not only helps many individuals but raises the profile of particular good causes.

It’s tough for charities to raise money these days and Peter, with his high profile, appeals to everyone’s better nature – and their sense of fun.
