IT’S come to something when the judges and the presenters on TV’s Strictly Come Dancing are more famous than any of the contestants.

The 2017 celebrity would-be dancers have just been announced and most people would be hard-pressed to recognise the majority of them as famous.

The best-known are probably comedian Brian Conley and TV presenter Ruth Langsford, married to Eamonn Holmes.

The others include chef Simon Rimmer, former pop group JLS member Aston Merrygold, actor Joe McFadden, Scottish comedian Susan Calman, soap actress Gemma Atkinson and former Communards’ member turned Church of England priest and broadcaster, Rev Richard Coles.

There seems to be a distinct lack of well-known sportsmen and women, who usually do well on Strictly, or household names that prove a weekly draw even if they were born with two left feet.

Perhaps the majority of famous personalities in the country who have not yet appeared on this extremely popular programme have actually seen it and realised the amount of very hard work needed to succeed there.
