FANCY an evening’s live entertainment which touches all the emotions? Go along to Bolton Octagon to see East is East - Ayub Khan Din’s iconic tale of life in ‘70s Salford.
Yes, it has bad language throughout and, yes, there is some upsetting violence. But the play, which became a BAFTA-winning film, is a fascinating look at clashing cultures and generations.
George Khan is the proud father of seven children but getting them to conform to Pakistani values is an uphill struggle. Tariq is the local romeo, Saleem pretends to be studying engineering but is actually at art school and young Sajid is so attached to his parka he sleeps in it. When George decides his two eldest sons must marry, the fun starts.
Kulvinder Ghir and Jane Hazlegrove give standout performances as George and Ella Khan and an accomplished cast create a highly enjoyable production, running until April 14.
