IT would be easy to be sniffy about teachers’ use of emojis to get Shakespeare’s prose across.
But the mobile phone icons that demonstrate a range of emotions could definitely help. The Bard’s work is obviously important literature and needs to be shared but it’s true that his words, in contemporary context, are hard for children in particular to understand.
As long as something doesn’t alter the meaning or beauty of his work and allows people to better enjoy it, it’s worth a try. Emojis are how youngsters relate to the world and people’s emotions so let’s talk their language.
