IT would be entirely fitting if roads around the new residential estate at the old Horwich Loco Works were named after former employees who died in two world wars.

Work on the 1,700 home Rivington Chase is due to start soon. Horwich First Community Group has asked for each street, road, close, way and avenue to be named after the 122 former Loco Works’ employees who gave their lives.

It would be fitting in several ways: it embeds the new development in the town and it honours local men from an organisation that gave generations of local families a livelihood.
