RE recent stories about the decommissioning of Greenbank sheltered housing in March, 2015.

I and my neighbours were informed in June that our home was not fit for purpose. There was low demand and no money available to upgrade facilities.

There was no consideration to residents who, for more than two decades and now over the age of 80 or 90, had paid their rent and utilities promptly and given love and pride to their home.

Bolton at Home is also a registered charity and evicting an elderly population is going against the company’s commitments and documented objectives.

Its £13,320,000 is surplus to £67,504,000 annual turnover as of March, 2013, and quite rightly reinvested into the company’s activities.

But I feel of £250,000 redirected into disabled adaptations savings from kitchen and bathroom improvements, a small portion could have been directed to Greenbank towards the upgrade of Careline services.

Frailty over years with older people in sheltered housing follows that there will be demise, thus creating vacancies.

In 2001/2012 there was 100 per cent occupancy. Greenbank is a light, bright and attractive site with potential. Bolton at Home took ownership of new offices, expecting to release about £450,000 of rental savings. They appear to be progressive but not, I hope, at the expense of the elderly.
