Healthy fats are an important part of our diets. Coconut, avocado, nuts, olives, seeds are all great examples of healthy fats.

A common misconception is that we must stay away from all fats if we don't want to be fat... well this simply isn't true.

Healthy fats, such as the ones I've mentioned help increase good cholesterol, decrease bad cholesterol, promote fat loss (yes, promote!), reduce abdominal fat, boost immune system, improve concentration and improve your mood!

So not only do they make you healthy, they make you feel good and look good.

Coconut is a popular choice of healthy fats, a superfood rich in fibre and antioxidants.

If you don't already have a good amount of healthy fats in your diet then there are many simple ways of adding them in.

Coconut milk is a great substitute for cows milk. It can give your breakfast or coffee a whole new taste. It can be used as a great base for protein shakes and smoothies, giving extra flavour.

A good way of increasing healthy fats into your diet is to cook with them.

Choose a healthier oil such as olive oil, coconut oil or nut oil to cook with instead of veggie or low fat sprays.

Cooking with coconut oil won't make your broccoli taste of coconut though!

Use these oils to drizzle over salads as a healthier option to a sauce, or swop your regular butter or marg for almond butter when you bake.

A handful of nuts each day, or a sprinkle of seeds and flaked coconut on your porridge in the morning will add healthy fats to your diet.

Healthy fats will also keep you feeling fuller for longer so this too can help with weight loss by controlling cravings.
