GENUINE good luck to the four singing groups which have joined together to try to raise money for the upkeep of Bolton’s Victoria Hall.

As anyone who has ever been to a concert or musical event there knows, this Grade II listed building on Knowsley Sttreet in the town centre has fabulous acoustics and has been a home to music for more than 100 years.

Luminaries like conductor Sir Thomas Beecham and Scottish soprano Dame Isobel Baillie are among many to have performed there, and it is a favourite venue for singers and performers of all ages.

The four groups – Bolton Choral Union, The Brixi Singers, Ladybridge Singers and Jazzicle – are in giving a gala concert at the hall on Saturday and it sounds well worth attending.

We need to keep this cultural gem. Bolton has lost too many important buildings already to allow another to close.
