BOTTOMS have been prominent in the news for the last week.

American reality TV star Kim Kardashian’s more than ample rear was shown on the cover of a magazine looking odd and possibly  Photoshopped to death. And singer Taylor Swift’s more pert offering was the butt – sorry – of cruel taunts encouraging people to donate to “buy” her a proper body.

The whole thing is totally mad, pointless and in poor taste. It over-focuses on women’s shape and can only make the young and insecure even more concerned that they don’t somehow conform to today’s stereotypes.

Nature does not offer a precise science or mould and everyone arrives with different assets and drawbacks. The trick here is to try to accept the latter, glorify in the former, and to concentrate on the more important business of being a unique you on the inside. It may sound trite but it’s probably true.
