IT’S entirely right that a Bolton Hospice worker known to all as Auntie Vee is to be honoured by nurses there.
For 23 years, Vera Ashcroft volunteered in the hospice’s shops and was a weekend receptionist at the main Chorley New Road site. Now, nurses wants to collect enough to buy a gold leaf in her honour for the metal sculpture the Tree of Life in the hospice’s reception.
Auntie Vee, who died at 81, epitomised all that is best in volunteering – she was cheery, hard-working, encouraging and fun. She loved what she did and shared that joy with others.
