THE news that disputed speed cameras on the M60 and M62’s smart motorway project are now up and running is probably being greeted with moans and groans.
Because if there’s one thing that gets people defensive today it’s any suggestion that they either (a) can’t drive properly or (b) drive too fast when, actually, all the evidence shows that many of us are guilty of both especially on motorways.
The 17-mile stretch of motorway, which covers the M61 junction to and from Bolton, now enforces a temporary speed limit of 50mph. Motorists flouting this have not been caught until now because of a legal dispute between police and the Highways Agency.
This is now resolved and the cameras are fully operational. As the costly project isn’t due to finish until Autumn, 2017, it’s definitely worth just abiding by the rules here – and proving that we are all good, law-abiding drivers.
