IT’S good to hear Business Secretary Sajid Javid has pledged to investigate the payment of tips to waiting on staff.
This follows claims that some restaurant bosses are pocketing them instead, and highlights a grey area that I suspect regularly misleads customers like you and I.
One way forward for all round transparency – and to ensure that the tips go to the hardworking staff as they are meant to – is for all restaurants, bars and cafes to highlight their policy for all to see. That way, the public can vote with their feet where the system is so blatantly unfair.
