NOT everyone will welcome the permanent return of Piers Morgan to Good Morning Britain on ITV.

He’s definitely the sort of person you either warm to or who makes you grind your teeth. However, there’s no denying the former Daily Mirror editor made an impact during his recent short-term slot.

Piers really livened up the sofa, jolting the regular team - in particular Susanna Reid - and making them up their game, and now he’s back.

He’s already presenting his excellent series Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, expertly questioning established stars to discover new information and perspectives.

He’s never courted popularity, even as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, and found an equally mixed reception when he was a bright but short-lived star of American TV.

Personally, I like him. He is often irritating but also sharp, funny and astute. He’s also a man of principle: his tough stance on gun law while in America was very brave, and he’s never back-tracked.

He should certainly make mornings that bit more unpredictable.
