THE BBC and South Yorkshire Police need to put up or shut up about allegations of historical sexual assault against Sir Cliff Richard.
The BBC was allowed exclusive access to film a police raid on the famous singer’s Berkshire home in 2014.
Although detectives have questioned him twice about sex allegations, after he voluntarily attended - spending almost two years trying to gather evidence - no case file has yet been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service for them to decide if there is a strong enough case to press charges.
Now, the BBC has used archive film of Sir Cliff on Top of the Pops with Jimmy Savile during a report on News at Six about the inquiry into Savile’s catalogue of sexual assaults, and the singer is threatening to sue the Corporation.
If there is substantial evidence against Sir Cliff, both he and the public need to know. Otherwise, let’s end the witch-hunt.
