IT’S no surprise that the boss of Bolton bakery Greenhalgh’s was such a hit when he was interviewed on TV last week.

David Smart was talking on ITV’s This Morning programme, interviewed by Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, about whether people can eat bread and still stay slim.

Mr Smart, who went from an apprentice at the bakery to its managing director in his 39 years with the company, defended bread stating that craft bakeries are the future.

His entertaining words and manner entranced Philip and Holly who described him as “amazing” and said “You’ll be back!”

Mr Smart was immediately approached by a TV production company and has already had initial discussions about a possible show about him and the bakery.

I do hope that works out because he is a brilliant ambassador for the town. He’s chairman of Bolton Little Theatre, still performs in amateur dramatics, and is a strong supporter of many local charities.

He is just what you’d want from someone on the telly representing Bolton.
