FOR the first time in 11 years, Westhoughton’s Wingates Band represents the region at the National Brass Bands Championships of Great Britain.

But they need around £10,000 to compete and are appealing for help with funding from local people.

The band, formed in 1873, has brought major acclaim and honour to the area, making the name of Westhoughton famous internationally. Now it is holding fundraising events to pay for entry fees, travel and other expenses so let’s hope it gets strong local support. The band brings glory to the area and a little investment is not a big ask.
