MORE effective legislation is definitely needed to deal with travellers who pitch up on private land.

The latest victims to suffer from this are Bolton company Newfoil, based off Lecturers Close. They were forced to suspend business and keep clients updated when travellers arrived, preventing staff from working and stopping production.

As the law stands, travellers are not criminals and the matter is a civil one which means the company or landlords have to take action. The travellers’ visit is both costly and inconvenient and there is often rubbish to be cleared later. Plainly, different legislation is needed, and quickly.
