BOLTON is a town steeped in history but sometimes we don’t even realise that it’s all around us.

Members of Halliwell Local History Society – a particularly interesting organisation with a wealth of knowledge and a fantastic collection of local photographs – has been researching local war memorials and has found dozens more than they expected.

They’re on chalices, hymn boards and hidden away plaques and all pay tribute to the sacrifice of individuals. This will feature in their excellent Local History Fair at St Luke’s Church, Chorley Old Road, on October 15. Do go along – you’ll be amazed at what’s there.
