THERE’S probably a really long list but what do YOU want to see less of in 2017?

I can think of plenty of people in this category – the Kardashians and Sir Philip Green for a start. But there are also plenty of situations I’d love to see much less of this New Year, and many I’d like to see far more of.

For example, I’m sick of seeing fly-tipping blighting local communities, like when a sofa was dumped on land in Back St Helens Road last week. I’d like to see more instances of people reporting fly-tippers they see or know about and anyone tempted to hire a “man and van” knowing more about them and their services beforehand.

I’d also like on-the-spot penalties of more than the £400 they went up to in May last year. Perhaps persistent offenders losing their vehicle might finally stop them from future fly-tipping.

We seem to have accepted that individuals will troll others online now that technology has removed accountability. As a result, some people are regularly and unaccountably vicious to others anonymously - which says much more about them than their victims - but let’s prosecute more and make trolling less socially acceptable.

Can we get rid of all the ridiculous short-cuts in life, too? Drugs are not another form of “training” to make sportsmen and women achieve more. Taking part in a reality show or marrying a footballer is not an alternative to forging a career and making your own money – and it doesn’t give you the self-respect.

Let’s cut our obsession with celebrities, their lives and particularly how they look. Yes, I know, the media is largely to blame but it’s fuelled by public preference so we all have to take responsibility.

Let’s ban air-brushing so that young girls and women specifically don’t aspire to unrealistic standards. If we had sensible expectations of how we could be if we exercised more/ate better/wore nicer clothes then perhaps we would have less eating problems.

And let’s see less of all those people – both figuratively and literally – who pretend that they and their children are actually eating a nutritious diet. We all know what obesity levels are and, if we’re honest, we know what the mirror really reflects.

Above all, can we have less disrespect and more fellow-feeling for each other in 2017? That way, this will be a better place to live.
