COMEDY actress Dawn French seems to be able to re-invent herself every few years with amazing success.
She started as a stand-up comedienne, moved into the public consciousness with TV’s Comic Strip programmes and then graduated to her own comedy series with Jennifer Saunders.
She starred successfully for several years in The Vicar of Dibley, still attracting high viewing figures in repeats, and has managed to sandwich in theatre appearances and TV dramas as well as her own solo theatre tours.
She is currently in an unusual four-part Sky 1 show called Delicious in which she plays a chef with a turbulent private life. It seems to fall into the “black comedy” category but it’s very entertaining, beautifully shot and reveals yet another interesting facet of this talented lady’s skills.
Dawn has always been a very likeable woman, unafraid to show herself as larger than life and proud of it. She’s also happy to explore her own talents with new challenges – so we never get tired of her. Clever lady.
