I’VE got mixed feelings about allowing learner drivers on motorways after following one along St Peter’s Way.

His uncertainty and comparatively low speed forced other drivers to move around him - not always an easy manoeuvre on a busy highway.

I completely understand that new drivers have to get used to motorway skills and the new proposals reflect that knowledge gap. However, is a stretch of speedy highway which already demands skilful and experienced driving the right place to begin learning anything?

If motorway driving skills are vital, perhaps we should have simulators available for learners to hone these safely.
