I COMPLETELY agree with the Radcliffe parents and youngsters campaigning against the proliferation of dog mess.

The youngsters made special posters urging irresponsible dog owners to pick up their dog’s mess rather than allow fouling of paths and fields. They took action after three year-old Jasper Ramsbottom-Jones slipped in dog mess while walking near his home. Children love outdoor walking but this experience is neither pleasant nor unusual.

Responsible dog owners take poop bags with them while walking their pets and dispose of the mess sensibly. But, there will always be selfish and inconsiderate owners who think that because there is grass or greenery in an area they don’t need to do this.

If someone allowed soiling of their gardens or paths they’d be the first to complain and call for action. Somehow, because they’re walking their dogs on public open space they believe it doesn’t matter. It’s totally unacceptable.
