IF there’s one Coronation Street character who has quietly come up on the blind side to burrow her way into the heart of the famous soap it’s Sally Metcalfe.
Actress Sally Dynevor first came into the street as a sweet-faced youngster in 1986 and she has been in several relationships including being married twice.
As the feisty mother of Sofie and Rosie, she’s had some juicy storylines and, since marrying window-cleaner Tim, is now part of an often very funny double-act.
Sally has always been rather pretentious and more than a bit bossy but seldom cruel. When scriptwriters made her a local councillor, some of her best scenes have resulted. Tonight, for example, Sally tackles local builders after Rosie is embarrassed in the street.
The actress herself has proved consistently impressive, especially when the storyline about her character having breast cancer was reflected in real-life. Fortunately, she was treated successfully for the disease.
We don’t always notice the old faithfuls in our soap favourites but Sally definitely deserves the plaudits.
