THERE has been far too much fuss about Tory MP Sir Roger Gale who caused “outrage” by referring to his women employees as “girls.”

Those very quick to leap to the defence of the four women who run his constituency office including his wife Suzy, called his approach “sexist”, saying he was “repellent and arrogant”.

The one slight glitch in this argument is that the women concerned actually didn’t mind.

While his approach is old-fashioned and probably a bit misguided today, it sounds like the women quite like being called “girls.”

At my age, for instance, it’s a welcome compliment.
