CHEWING gum blights town centres and streets everywhere in the UK and is extremely expensive to remove.
Now, councils are once again demanding that manufacturers do their bit in helping get rid of it by contributing towards the clean-up costs. Chewing gum leaves taxpayers nationally with a £60 million bill – money that could easily be used for other vital services, especially at a time of swingeing council cuts.
Most gum is not biodegradable and once trodden into surfaces needs specialised equipment to remove. So, come on Wrigleys and the rest – show your responsibility and help us clean up our towns.
