ALTHOUGH some would disagree, we owe a debt of gratitude to those who have served in the armed forces.
Unfortunately, today, many forces’ veterans may suffer from problems. They may find themselves homeless and can be more susceptible to mental health problems.
So it’s good news that Bolton NHS Foundation Trust has appointed a welfare officer to help support the town’s forces’ veterans. Andy Robb who had a 30-year career with Greater Manchester Police and also served in the Reserve Forces, will liaise with both the Royal Bolton Hospital and the community.
He will help with any welfare needs like access to benefits, housing and local services like mental health support. Although he will be mainly focusing on the over 65s, he can also help direct younger patients to services if that is needed.
His help could reduce time individuals may spend in hospital and promote positive outcomes for many.
