IT would be easy seeing the shocking Lincolnshire modern slavery ring and thinking “well, it couldn’t happen here – we’d know.”

In fact, The National Crime Agency is quick to point out that there are slavery cases in every large UK town and city. They are currently assisting on 300 live police operations targeting modern slavery with alleged victims as young as 12 being sold to families in the UK from Europe.

Typically, vulnerable individuals are forced to work for little or no wages, virtually held captive while their captors live normal – often privileged – lives. So how do we spot these slavery cases?

The Salvation Arms says victims often don’t have possession of their own passport, identification or travel documents. They look as if they’re coached or instructed by someone else and are dependent, with little freedom or money.

If you have suspicions, act on them, and help free today’s slaves.
