PETER Kay’s brand new TV advert for Warburtons’ bread is not only very entertaining but also vintage Kay.

It’s absolutely appropriate that the Bolton lad should be involved with promoting the iconic national company which started its life in Bolton and the new advert is a mini-programme in itself.

It’s classic Pride and Prejudice meets seed salesmen’s tale with a happy ending. There are corny jokes and references to every telly bodice-ripper’s you’ve ever seen — from Poldark with his scythe to even a spot of saucy bread kneading straight out of the film Ghost — all with a nod to Peter’s brilliant adverts for John Smith’s beer.

The advert follows on from other Warburtons’ classic TV ads which have starred Sylvester Stallone and the Muppets and shows how the local firm recognises the power of celebrity when it comes to selling its own products.

This latest one, however, proves another interesting point: like Coronation Street’s meerkats, some of the adverts provide better entertainment than many of the programmes. Have it!
