I’VE just come back from a trip to New Zealand to see family.
On the 10-hour flight from Auckland to Singapore, the man I sat next to didn’t leave his seat at all.
He crossed my mind when I read about TV presenter Chris Tarrant suffering a mini stroke during an 11-hour flight, and thought how lightly we tend to take the dangers of long haul travel.
Health experts keep stressing the need for regular movement and stretching, along with other aids like flight socks, but we still think we can just loll there, watch films and while away the time with no ill-effects.
So if you’re facing a lengthy flight this Summer, or anytime, it’s worth taking a pro-active approach to keeping your body healthy during the hours on a plane. There are genuine dangers lurking otherwise.
