Re the letter “How Town Has Been Dismantled” (March 20).

Over the 50-year period Mr Colley discussed in his article, inevitably things would have moved on and changes would have been made.

About some of the issues raised, there is still a football pitch near to South Avenue, one at Bradford Street and others at schools in the area that are used by the community.

In relation to George Tomlinson School. This is now a newly-built school, renamed Kearsley Academy with a sixth form and, when building work has been completed, it will have football pitches and other sporting facilities which the school is keen for the community to take advantage of.

Then play facilities. We have a Multi Games Area (MUGA) at Kearsley Park, which is also to be re-furbished in the 2015 budget.

There are new junior/ toddler facilities at Brook Street, a junior/toddler and tennis court facilities at Bradford Street Park, with play areas at Moss Lane, Church Road and, not only a play area, but playing fields at Bank Top Park.

If Mr Colley cares to take a short walk from his home he will see that there is a junior/toddler/ senior play area with fields on Hulme Road. When funding becomes available, we will look to adding to these.

We also have a new youth facility in Prestolee.

Also, police stations. If Mr Colley thinks modern policing is all about police officers sitting in lots of police stations he is very much mistaken.

Unfortunately, due to unprecedented cuts by this ConDem government, the council has had to find over £100 million and has had to rationalise its estate which, amongst other buildings, included Kearsley Town Hall.

As you can see from the areas listed above, it seems to discount the fact that there are no plays areas or recreational facilities.

It does, however, appear to be a cheap shot at Bolton so, in Mr Colley’s case, some things haven’t changed over the years.
