MY friend Rees Gibbon is right to draw attention to the CCTV situation in Little Lever. However, I must correct the facts as he states them.

There are indeed three cameras and one is still installed across from the precinct. Unfortunately, the monitoring equipment has been stored in a cupboard somewhere since the council sold the old council offices in September, 2011 and we lost our police post.

I have brought the subject up at PAC meetings and more recently at the last area forum. The response from the Labour councillors was that we had no location for the equipment, the maintenance contract had run out, a new contract would cost £14,000 for two years and we had no money.

They were, however, able to conjure up £33,000 to spend on a pathetic pre-election bribe of unnecessary block paving.

I wrote to Tony Lloyd, police and crime commissioner, in February, to see if he could get to the bottom of why this valuable resource remains unused. His deputy has asked GMP to investigate this and my latest information is that inquiries are still ongoing with GMP and Bolton Council to view all the associated costs.
