I WOULD like to assure Chris Chilton of Bolton Against the Bedroom Tax that the British National Party’s opposition to the “bedroom tax”, is based not upon ‘political opportunism’ as he suggests, but from a long held opposition to much of the so-called austerity cuts imposed by the Con-Dem Government (Letters, April 10).

Not only do the economic arguments for the bedroom tax not stand up, but the BNP also opposes the bedroom tax because we see the social value of keeping long settled local communities together. Furthermore, in keeping with its more recent history of betrayal of British working people, it is telling that the Labour Party has issued no commitment to reverse this particular injustice.
