“What we do have in area’ Letters, April 9.

Councillor Derek Burrows makes several assertions, which range from the ambiguous to complete fantasy.

Firstly the astonishing claim that there is still a football pitch at South Avenue, Kearsley. I can guarantee him that there isn’t, and like many others who were mystified by this claim, would like to know how he has come to this bizarre conclusion.

Councillor Burrows also suggests I take a short walk to see the play area on Hulme Road, I can assure him that I am well aware of this park, as it is the only one left in the area after the other five were removed from the Ringley Meadows estate.

He also makes another curious claim that there are fields on Hulme Road, again this is most bewildering as none of us in Ringley can find them!

I am happy that Councillor Burrows has highlighted this particular play area, because if he actually went and looked at it, he would notice that the climbing frames are being used as goalposts, because as pointed out in my original letter, there are no playing fields left in the area.

Regarding his attempted justification of the Kearsley Town Hall fiasco, it must have slipped his notice that it was simply left to rot during the last several years, when his own party (Labour) have had control of the council, trying to blame this on anyone else speaks volumes.

The rest of Councillor Burrows’ letter highlights playing facilities at Kearsley Academy and Kearsley Park, which at the moment are both unusable and have been for quite a while. Whether there will be football pitches and tennis courts for the public to use at the Academy, or whether the park will be turned into a sports field and play area again, is at this point unknown.

I stand by every word of my original letter, everything listed has gone, next to nothing has been gained in its place, and the good people of Kearsley, and their children, have hardly anywhere to kick a ball.
