I HAVE received an outline planning proposal for land at Roscoe’s Farm, off Bolton Road in Westhoughton.

Westhoughton used to be a beautiful place with lots of country walks. You could go to Market Street and buy a man’s suit or a TV. There were two cinemas and it was a bustling welcoming place.

Now there are hardly any green areas left, every bit of land is taken up with new houses The residents of the new houses don’t even know where the town centre is never mind bring anything to the community and now developers want to build another 99 new homes. The main roads in Westhoughton are gridlocked early in the morning and again at night. More houses mean more cars — this can’t be good.

Jones Homes say they will pay a sum of money towards the improvement of existing public places in Westhoughton. The only improvement they could make would be not to build on one of the very few open spaces left.

Each year on this site there are up to 15 cows grazing on this land. Where else can you see cows in Westhoughton these days? It would be a shame to spoil the view.
