THE school that is opening children’s lunchboxes and dictating what they have to eat is “Big Brother OTT” and against individual’s rights.

It is not the responsibility of the school or the government what a child eats, but only if it is left without food. The content is the parents’ responsibility.

When I hear a parent state the excuse: “My child is fussy and will not eat this or that,” I inwardly chuckle, as they are making a rod for their own back.

The answer is simple, if carried out with authority. You eat what is put on to the table in front of you or go hungry.

Being without food for 48 hours is not detrimental to your health, after which you will eat the table top.

There are always exceptions to the rule, for example, children with medical reasons.

In my childhood, in the heat of summer, I would ask my dad for a drink of pop, but the answer was always the same — Lions drink corporation pop and look how strong they are.

I know I refer to the past, all food was in short supply. But I gained the ability which I am ever grateful for, to be able to eat and enjoy the flavours and textures of all foods.
