BOLTON Council has sent letters, re the way you register to vote is changing. There are also details of two registers: The Electoral Register and The Open Register.

The Open Register is an extract of The Electoral Register but not used for elections. It can be bought by any person, company or organisation.

You can ask to be removed from The Open Register. I thought phoning to do this was going to be an easy option. How wrong I was.

After being kept on hold for nearly 40 minutes I got to speak to an agent. Surely, if Bolton Council put phoning as an option then, in the early afternoon, it can’t be so busy? This letter is just to alert anyone thinking of making use of the phone option. Perhaps Bolton Council does not want people to opt out of the Open Register as your details can be bought?
