AS a concerned resident of The Haulgh, I am sending this letter to draw attention to the anti-social behaviour blighting Bridgeman Place Park in Bradford Street.
This attractive mini-park was rescued from dereliction some years ago by the sadly deceased Walter Scott and his group of volunteers.
Unfortunately, we are now witnessing, from dawn to dusk, intimidating groups of sometimes up to 15 alcoholics supping cans of lager, drug dealers, dog fouling, begging, mounds of litter, discarded beer cans, urinating in the bushes, foul language, arguments, assaults, etc.
The residents should have the right to use this green oasis, but are prevented from doing so by these low-life undesirables who are turning the place into a magnet for anti-social behaviour.
There is a sign adjacent to the park warning “Drinking Alcohol in public is prohibited, Penalty £500”, but nobody seems to take any notice.
There is also a plaque in the park remembering Walter Scott.
I can't help thinking that he would be turning in his grave if he knew that the park was now attracting the type of behaviour he most certainly would not have approved of.
