WE feel that we must write in reply to the letter published last week from Mr Chris Green and his attack on Yasmin Qureshi, MP.

We are the executive officers of Bolton South East Constituency Labour Party and, as such, work and communicate with Yasmin on a regular basis.

Yasmin is always available to us, as she is with all her constituents.

She does not sub-divide or classify her constituents by race, gender or orientation, but has a positive and proactive response to all who contact her.

Along with her team of helpers, she listens to and deals with hundreds of requests for help every year.

When there is a matter of great interest in the media, such as the situation in Syria or Gaza, this demand can increase to thousands in a short space of time and Yasmin replies to every letter and request for help that her office receives.

Mr Green seems to imply that Yasmin does not represent all her constituents equally.

This is not so, she listens to and assists everyone who contacts her, regardless of their background.

In fact, the issue of ethnicity, orientation or gender seems to be more of a concern to Mr Green.

His letter is an exercise in political point scoring, attacking “Left-wing MPs” and policies to try and win the attention and approval of his target voters.

If he is serious in his ambitions to challenge for a seat in Parliament, perhaps he should consider trying to build bridges with people from all backgrounds and make an effort to support our MPs in the sterling work that they all do for our communities in Bolton.
