FURTHER to my letter about the number of unsolicited telephone calls. I would like to thank those who rang me to offer their advice on what to do to alleviate this problem.

I have tried two of the suggestions and I can only hope that, in time, the calls will cease altogether or maybe they will not occur so frequently. Let’s hope so.

In Astley Bridge where I live, we have a small free monthly magazine and in the October edition there is a contribution from Cllr Paul Wild which goes into detail about an organisation called Telephone Preference Service or TPS which you can join and be added to the register which is supposed to prevent these tele-marketing companies from contacting you. Unfortunately it does not work.

Now we have started to get recorded messages. Cllr Wild’s motion to Bolton Council to get the council to write to the government asking for legislation was passed at the council meeting.

So we will have to wait and see if anything is forthcoming, or will we just have to put up with these very annoying phone calls? I do hope not.
