TODAY in the House of Commons, there is due to be a backbench debate entitled Palestine and Israel, with a resolution: “That this House believes that the Government should recognise the state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel”.

Trade unions in the North West have links with workers and trade unionists around the world.

Unions argue that promoting trade unionism and democracy is essential to eliminate poverty and to promote peace around the world.

Our local MPs are currently being urged to support this motion.

The Shadow Foreign Secretary said: “Palestinian statehood is not a gift to be given, but a right to be recognised”, a position he has reaffirmed on a number of occasions, including at last week’s Labour Party Conference.

Palestine is high on the political agenda for millions here in the UK and around the world.

The UK can play a key role in helping to secure peace and justice in Israel and Palestine.
