IT has been most heartening to see the very positive article and editorial about the Victoria Hall (October 8) and the supportive letters from Boltonians over the recent weeks.

We are glad to see the affection people feel for the hall and the varied work which goes on there.

I would also like to thank members and friends of the hall who responded generously over the last year to our 100 club appeal for urgent work on the tower.

An anonymous donor gave £12,000 which was matched by 101 people each giving £120 in a year.

With a grant from English Heritage, the necessary amount for the tower has been raised and work has already started.

If we sell most of the £1,300 worth of tickets for the gala concert on Saturday, October 18, this will be another great step forward.

It will help us to live up to our Mission Statement: seeking to serve God, people, the town, the community and partnership with others.”
