WHILST driving around Bolton it now seems that at every traffic light junction each time the light moves from green to amber someone will continue without slowing and blatently go through the light when actually on red.

This practice is obviously an offence and dangerous but it is particularly unhelpful to vehicles wishing to turn right at a crossroad when the irresponsible drivers keep on coming through the red light.

It is difficult to know how to stop this curse before a bad collision occurs. Publicity or signage asking for respect is probably not going to have any positive effect. I had thought that moving the light further back would allow the driver more time to react to an amber signal but it may just mean that their car is more likely to have red as they cross the junction. Perhaps temporary cameras or a sensible traffic control person with a camera at a junction for a short period, followed by a well publicised prosecution. Much as it goes against my wish to penalise motorists more than they already are, hopefully such a sharp blitz tactic may bring the situation back in order.
