I WAS amused and a little annoyed to read Cllr Nick Peels anachronistic view of Bedroom Tax protesters by referring to them as being from a far left Political background, similarly in the past he has referred to me in Bolton News as being far left, which I am most definitely not.
Cllr Peel claimed that the group was protesting to the wrong people instead of attacking the Government, however he fails to mention that it is Bolton's Labour Council which is implementing the Governments anti-human policies without any resistance from them whatsoever, so for Bedroom tax protesters it is right to protest to both the people who came up this absurd policy in the first place, and those who implement it. If Cllr Peel doesn't understand this, then he knows little about political protest.
Before Cllr Peel labels other people who have the courage to speak about political issues as hard left, perhaps he needs to get with the political program, modern day protesters have little interest in the likes of Trotsky and Lenin from the hard left traditions. If he is really interested in what modern protesters are all about perhaps he should research it, the juggling of corporate policy and social spending that characterised the Labour Party from Blair onwards is dead. It's time to start looking at some of the new thinking where people's well being is put before the protections of the profits of a few private individuals.
