TWO very important open green areas in Westhoughton are now under threat from unsustainable housing developments. Lee Hall of Platt Lane and Roscoes Farm off Bolton Road.
Both areas areas are strategic local wildlife corridors under the protection of Bolton council's core strategy.
However Roscoe's Farm was allowed to slip through the net even though there are rare, endangered species breeding and feeding there.
It is also protected as a local nature reserve (LNR) with orchids, schedule red.amber listed birds and great crested newts.
It seems some people have badly slipped up at Roscoes and not read the policies/strategy in full. If the developers get their way current/future habitats will be destroyed forever.
Also if the Chequerbent Wildlife Corridor is destroyed along with a probable rare prehistoric/Bronze Age habitation. I recently asked Persimmons if they would protect the wildlife through the lifetime of the development and I was told yes.
Along with massive traffic impact for Horwich Loco site, the Atherton area and Little Hulton, and both sites, how on earth can these be sustainable developments?
