I READ with interest your article and comments posted by your readers, regarding the so-called Christmas cards sent by Bolton At Home reminding tenants of their rent arrears.
Firstly, I found some of their comments very insulting. Furthermore why do so many automatically assume that people living in social housing are in receipt of Housing Benefit? I for one, have worked full time for almost 40 years and have only required assistance twice after being made redundant.
Secondly, I received one of their cards which very kindly informed me that my account was in arrears owing one week's rent. In fact, I was in credit and the card had been sent AFTER I had paid. Annoyingly, this is not the first time it has happened over the last year and in one instance they had failed to process a payment altogether which put me into arrears for many weeks. I was only made aware of this when I received a quarterly statement from them.
I understand that they have to chase outstanding payments but they should have a better system in place for doing so.
S Hill,
Bolton.
