CLLR Nick Peel has to be applauded for being one of the few elected officials in Bolton who responds to the electorate in the letters page but unfortunately his approach leaves a lot to be desired and he could do with taking a more measured tone when disagreeing with people who are paying for his salary (re: Steve Jones).

However, now that we have opened up this channel of communication I have one question I would like Cllr Peel to answer on these pages. Cllr Peel tells us that he has had meetings with Labour Shadow Ministers to discuss the repeal of the “bedroom tax”. Whilst he was there did Cllr Peel ask Labour Shadow Ministers if they intend to reverse the budget cuts which the Conservative led coalition government have imposed on Bolton Council (a point that Bolton’s Labour group constantly remind us)? If Labour cannot commit to reversing these cuts to Bolton Council then the simple fact is that these cuts are made from an economic necessity and not for ideological reasons.

Cllr Peel’s anticipated silence on my question will speak volumes….voters take note when election time comes round !
